It’s the new year and another go at “getting things right.” Although it seems as if resolutions are trending a lot less these days, I took some time out to truly evaluate what I hope to accomplish this year.
No matter the reason, it is ultimately important to always set goals. Be it the new year or just the start of a new week, growth is never a bad idea. So as my new year would have it, I’ve listed out a few intentions that may also fit perfectly into your personal goals.
Productive over Perfection – Too often we have the perfect plan. And it’s even more often that those plans get lost in the pages of forgotten notebooks, yesteryear conversations and deleted Word documents. I’m challenging myself to accomplish something regularly. It doesn’t have to be checks on the bucket list, but maybe a task as simple as making my bed each morning in hopes that it will grow into cleaning my entire room each week. Baby steps.
Make Your Journal Your Best Girlfriend – There is one thing that every person I have admired had in common, and that’s that they all kept a journal. Journals allow us to empty the tank, so that we can make room for refueling. For years I bottled in emotions frustrated that there were no stops along the way to release them. Journaling has restored my confidence, helped me to work through my bad relationship moments, and better take responsibility for my own shortcomings. It also pairs well with good girl talk and a glass of wine. This will remain a coveted keepsake in my life.
Forgiveness Is Necessary – I believe in this notion simply because I constantly remind myself of how often I’ve been forgiven. Forgiveness doesn’t mean to allow someone back in, nor does it mean to set self up to be hurt again. Forgiveness is saying you were wrong, but I choose peace. However that peace resonates for you, allow it take root without being enveloped in malice or anger. The most beautiful thing about forgiveness is that it is a choice.
Value Your Time – Time is our most valuable commodity. God gave us all the same amount, but how we spend it determines our true value. I want my days to be balanced in great conversations with friends, intimate moments with family, productive work scheduling, and in the moment experiences. When our life accounts are off balanced, we will always come up short changed.
The Buddy System – Every Superhero has a weakness, and there’s nothing like a good friend who’s there to help mend the smallest wounds. Being vulnerable, or human, is necessary. It’s embedded into our genetic coding. I’m so lucky to have great friends and family who I can call on in my Kryptonite-ridden moments. Skating through life as an uber-independent is a fast-tracked way to have mishaps turn into depression. Don’t do life alone!
And there we have it. Some new, some old, but all worth a little watering.
Wishing you well along your journey today, tomorrow, and throughout the year. xxFelicia
